Cherries and chocolate is of my favorite flavor combinations. There's something sexy about them, I'm not sure what. Both are indulgent and rich, like a good lover.
The cherries also pair really well with Earl Grey tea. The sprinkle of raw (turbinado) sugar on top makes a really nice crust. Buttery, with spots of rich chocolate. I like using chocolate that's about 70% cocoa.
Cherry Chocolate Scones

Mix dry ingredients, then cut in the butter. Process in a food processor until crumbly.
Whisk buttermilk and eggs, pour over top of dry ingredients and combine only untli just mixed. Toss in chocolate and cherries.
Form balls of dough approx. 1/2 cup each. Pat into 1 1/2" disks. Brush tops with egg wash (egg and tablespoon of milk) and sprinkle with turbinado sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for about 20-25 minutes.
Enjoy with Earl Grey tea (Twinings is nice) and berry preserves.
